So instead of sending out a family letter, I decided to start a family blog. And in all our letters we will tell everyone to visit this site. Anyways, about our family.
This year started with me getting called as the Relief Society President for our ward here in Logan. It has been a difficult and most satisfying calling. I have seen sisters that never attend to start coming. Sisters do their visiting teaching and I have seen the whole ward come together to help one family who really needed our help. What a blessing it has been to serve those sisters. As for Arik he is now the first counselor in the Elder's Quorum presidency. We have been very busy in our church callings.
This year we also got an addition to our family. Kira Suzanne was born on August first. She was named after her daddy (Arik is Kira backwards) and both her grandmas. She is just a good baby. She is pretty heavy also, reaching 17 pounds by four months. She is only ten pounds lighter than Brookelyn. She loves to smile and can always make our day.
As for Brookelyn, she is a great big sister. She sings popcorn popping to Kira and reads her books. She plays peek-a-boo and tickles Kira. When she wakes up from naps or in the morning her first question is, "Where is Kira?" She loves to watch movies and right now loves to watch High School Musical and the Toy Stories. She is a great talker and loves to read. She is starting to use the potty but isn't as interested in it as mom would like.
Arik is working on his Thesis and is trying to balance writing and work with his family. I think he has done really well with his time and always makes his girlies feel important, all three of us.
I am doing well. I get to spend my mornings with my daughters, my afternoons at the school I work at, and most of my evenings doing RS stuff. Time is going so fast that I am jsut trying to keep up.
This past Friday a sister in our ward lost her little 6 week old boy to SIDS. I think that it was the hardest thing I have ever had to face. I was there with her all Friday Morning, I spend much of Saturday with her and then put on my first funeral yesterday. Now that I have time to stop and think about what happened it has made me realize just how precious life really is and how quickly it can be gone. I am grateful for the gospel knowledge I have and that this sweet sister has also. We have spent much time talking and she is an amazing woman.
I hope at this time of year we can take some time and remember the true meaning of Christmas and why we celebrate it at all. I hope that you each have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and that your lives will be blessed. We pray for you all and hope you know the love we have for you.
Merry Christmas and Happy New YEar.
